Hi, my name is Christine Hako-Oja (it's Finnish and pronounced huko - o ya). Born in northern Ontario, I now reside and work in Wainwright (near Edmonton), Alberta. My love of pencil drawings and watercolour began at an early age and I continue to work in both mediums. With a preference to photo-real art, I focus on animals as the subject of my pencil drawings whereas my watercolours usually depict golf course and nature scenes. What started as a hobby has quickly become a passion that consistently grows as it brings recognition and an increasing list of collectors across North America. You can contact me for a quote or more information. |
The Artist |
Born in Sudbury, Ontario and raised in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Christine discovered her love for drawing and painting as a young girl in school. At the age of 15, when one of her drawings was sold, the dream began. Now she is an award winning artist, with 3 first-place awards. Eventually, she decided to compliment her passion with the ability to frame her artwork, and began working in picture framing shops in Edmonton, Alberta. After many years, and with hundreds of drawings and paintings sold, she finally realized her dream by opening her own art studio / picture framing shop in Wainwright, Alberta on March 27th, 2004. A perfectionist by nature, Christine insists on quality no matter what the budget, and feels very strongly about customer satisfaction. She has quickly developed an excellent reputation for her custom picture framing. Thanks to her artisitc mind and great talent, she is able to offer unique ideas for framing. Originally specializing in animals, Christine*s photo-realistic artwork has provided her many customers with incredibly beautiful memories of their special pets. In 2000, she was commissioned by the International Bison Association to provide 8 original, framed paintings for their annual conference which was held in Edmonton, Alberta. When approached by a golf course to paint several of their holes, a new market opened up for her, which has expanded to include golf courses around the world. One of her proudest moments came when a painting was commissioned by a Design Associate with Nicklaus Design as a special Christmas gift for Jack Nicklaus. That painting, titled "Moose at Northern Bear", is now hanging in Jack Nicklaus* office in Palm Beach, Florida. In 2004, Christine was chosen by the Wainwright branch of Ducks Unlimited as "Artist of the Year", and honoured at their annual gala. As word of her talent quickly spread, her range of subjects grew. She now includes landscapes, golf courses, buildings and vehicles in her list of specialties. Whether you are looking for a gift that will be cherished for a lifetime, or your own special memory, Christine*s artwork is guaranteed to please. Franz Hasenhundl |
